5 Days Fez to Marrakesh to the desert

Day 1 Fez-Ifrane-Azrou-Midelt- Ziz-Merzouga Valley

We leave at 8 in the morning heading for MERZOUGA.
We will cross the Middle Atlas with its mountains and plateaus covered with cedars.
On the way we will pass by IFRANE, it is the rarest “oasis” of Morocco: suddenly, and without warning appears in the middle of the country a place where it is cold, with a perfectly straight line, very clean, with houses with orange roofs Alpine style. There is no hustle in the street, no souks. It’s going to look like we’re not in Morocco.
The village is full of parks and lakes. They call it “the Moroccan Switzerland”
We will find in one of its parks the famous sculpture in the shape of a lion’s head that is the symbol of the locality.
To 17 km to the south, we will find the city of AZROU, a Berber city that is located in the crossing between the routes of Meknes, Fez, Jenifra and Midelt. Due to its location, one of the most important markets of the Middle Atlas is celebrated.
At 13km you will find the amazing monkey forest, where you can observe closely and feed these sociable animals.
We will follow route through MIDELT, place where we will stop for lunch.
Before arriving at this town, we will cross a volcanic plain covered with pumice stone.
Following the road, we will arrive at VALLE DEL ZIZ. Here is the largest oasis not only of Morocco, but of all Africa: the TAFILAT
We will stop in the village of ERFOUD, famous for the museum of fossils and minerals.
At the end of the valley we will find the MERZOUGA dune sea.
We will take you to the hotel where you can settle, have dinner; but first, we will go out to the dunes to watch the sunset.

Day 2: Merzouga-Rissani-Erg Chebbi

After a rich breakfast, we will go to the village of RISSANI.
 In the Middle Ages was the capital of the region of Tafilalt was the mythical city of Sijilmansa (near its ruins today rises the city of Rissani).
It was one of the first imperial cities of Morocco. The city was the starting point of the present dynasty that reigns today in Morocco.
We will visit the fortress of Zawiya Moulay Ali ash-Sharif; fortress from where the Alawites departed. Today it is the mausoleum of Moulay Ali ash-Sharif.
RISSANI is today a beautiful and quiet town of adobe.
The market is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. You can see a big animal fair, especially donkeys.
We will have lunch here, at RISSANI. You can taste the famous “Rissani pizza”.
At dusk we will head back to MERZOUGA to meet our guide and camels. We will route to the heart of the Sahara, camel mounted or if you prefer in a 4×4 car.
We will contemplate the sunset in the dunes. We will be walking in the ERG CHEBBI, a superb cordon of golden dunes that penetrate in the immensity of the Sahara.
We will spend the night in a Berber tent “haima”, we will dine around the fire with music of drums and contemplating the starry sky.

Day 3: Erg Chebbi-Erg Ouzina- Alnif-Todra Gorges

We will contemplate the sunrise in the middle of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
After a rich Berber breakfast, we will head for the village of KHAMILA to listen to African music.
We will visit the Berber village of OUZINA, where we will have lunch.
We will continue the route going through completely deserted landscapes to ALNIF to arrive at night to the GORGES OF TODRA.
Here we will spend the night in a Riad.

Day 4: Todra Gorges- Ouarzazate-Kasba Aït Ben Haddou

15 km from TINERGHIR, we find the GORGES OF TODRA; the relief forms a kind of funnel in which between two very high walls of red stone, the river flows meekly.
In the morning, we will make an excursion in this area.
We will follow the route to OUARZAZATE where you can visit the Aït Ben Haddou kasba, a spectacular fortification protected by UNESCO and located in one of the most beautiful and best preserved adobe villages in the whole of Morocco.
There were filmed several famous films like LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, JESUS ​​OF NAZARET, GLADIATOR, THE MOMMY, THE PRINCE OF PERSIA … ..
You can also visit the film studios and see some of the sets used in the films.
On the way to MARRAKECH, we stop for lunch.
We will cross the Atlas Mountains arriving at the Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass (2200 m altitude)
We will continue towards Marrakech.
Here we will have dinner and stay at our hotel.
Night in Marrakech ……

Day 5 Marrakech-Essauira-Marrakech

After breakfast, we will leave for ESSAUIRA.
The waves crash against the walls of the harbor castle, while the gulls flutter around the old walls.
ESSAUIRA is the most romantic coastal city in Morocco.
We will visit the fishing port where the fish is auctioned every day.
We will also visit the old port of Mogador or “port of Tombuctu” as it was known in the nineteenth century for its character as a commercial point between black Africa, South America and Europe. As well as the beautiful square Moulay Hassan, the souk … and many more.
We will take lunch in the port where there are food stalls that open the appetite to anyone.
In the afternoon we will return to Marrakech.
We will visit the souks, the medina, the madraza … .etc. At the indicated time, transfer to the airport.
